Mastro De Paja - n. 123
Original and immediately recognizable, this Mastro de Paja 3C – 1 Sole interprets the Freeform shape through a slender and highly individual design. The tall, softly sculpted bowl has a gentle inclination and extends at the underside into a distinctive briar projection, an integral part of the design that adds movement to the silhouette while allowing the pipe to rest independently on a flat surface.
The smooth briar features a warm honey-brown finish that beautifully showcases the natural grain. Long flame patterns rise vertically along the bowl and continue onto the shank, following the flowing contours of the pipe. The long black mouthpiece, slender and only gently curved, provides a strong colour contrast with the briar and further emphasizes the horizontal development of the shape.
The 3C – 1 Sole classification belongs to the nomenclature of Mastro de Paja, one of the names historically associated with the Pesaro school of Italian pipe making. Established during the 1970s, the workshop became known for handcrafted briar pipes and considerable freedom in interpreting traditional forms, qualities particularly evident in its Freeform designs. The characteristic Sun emblem, also visible on the mouthpiece, is one of the marque's most recognizable symbols.
A distinctive handcrafted Italian Mastro de Paja 3C – 1 Sole pipe, standing apart from more traditional shapes through its original silhouette, attractive briar grain and unusual integrated support beneath the bowl. An appealing piece both for the smoker and for collectors interested in the more creative expressions of Pesaro pipe making.
