Mastro De Paja - n. 128
A soft and flowing silhouette distinguishes this Mastro de Paja 2C – 1 Sole “Per Amici”, a pre-smoked handcrafted Italian pipe in a distinctive Bent Egg shape. The bowl has a full, harmoniously rounded volume with a gentle forward inclination, while the shank naturally leads into the long curve of the mouthpiece, creating an elegant and beautifully balanced profile.
The smooth briar is particularly attractive for its rich grain, with long golden-brown flame patterns rising along the walls of the bowl and becoming more animated towards the lower section. The underside features a contrasting rusticated area, darker and more tactile, deliberately interrupting the smooth surfaces and adding further individuality to the pipe. The long curved black mouthpiece completes the composition with a slender line.
The 2C and 1 Sole markings belong to the grading and identification system used by Mastro de Paja, one of the historic names associated with the Pesaro school of Italian pipe making. Established in Pesaro during the 1970s, the workshop became one of the representative names of the modern Italian artisan tradition, known for its attention to briar, individual shapes and handcrafted production. The small sun emblem, also visible on the mouthpiece, became one of the workshop's most recognizable symbols.
The “Per Amici” designation adds further interest to this vintage example and identifies a particular Mastro de Paja production also encountered among collectible estate pipes.
