Mastro De Paja - n. 124
A traditional design made immediately recognizable by its distinctive colour contrast defines this Mastro de Paja 3A – 1 Sole, a pre-smoked handcrafted Italian pipe in a classic Billiard shape. The bowl features regular, well-balanced proportions and flows into a straight shank, continuing naturally into the long and tapered mouthpiece.
The smooth briar is one of the most attractive aspects of this example. Its warm reddish-brown finish highlights beautiful vertical grain across the bowl and dense flame patterns along the shank. Providing a particularly elegant contrast is the ivory-coloured mouthpiece, bearing the small Sun emblem and giving the pipe a markedly different appearance from the more common versions fitted with a black stem.
The 3A – 1 Sole stamping belongs to the nomenclature used by Mastro de Paja, one of the historic names associated with the Pesaro school of Italian pipe making that rose to prominence during the 1970s. Within the traditional grading system, the 3A designation is associated with smooth pipes in the characteristic orange-brown finish, while the Sun relates to the aesthetic selection of the briar. The same emblem can also be seen on the mouthpiece, recalling one of the most recognizable symbols of the Pesaro workshop.
A distinctive pre-owned Mastro de Paja 3A – 1 Sole Billiard, particularly attractive for its combination of traditional shape, expressive briar grain and unusual light-coloured mouthpiece. This vintage example should appeal both to smokers looking for a classic Italian pipe and to enthusiasts collecting Mastro de Paja production from past decades. The photographs show the actual condition of this specific pipe and form an integral part of its description.
