Long, slender and distinctly classical in its proportions, this Barling EXEL 5295 T.V.F. is a pre-smoked pipe with a pronounced English character. The tall, almost cylindrical bowl rises vertically above a particularly elongated shank, creating an elegant and remarkably streamlined silhouette. A dark, deeply textured finish covers the bowl and continues along much of the shank.

The very dark brown, almost black colouring reinforces the understated vintage character of the pipe, while warmer shades of briar remain visible in selected areas. The long straight black mouthpiece naturally continues the line of the shank and plays an important role in creating the exceptionally slender proportions of this example.

Of particular historical and collecting interest are the Barling – London England – EXEL – T.V.F. – 5295 stampings. In historic Barling nomenclature, EXEL identifies one of the size grades introduced into the company's sizing system during the 1940s. The T.V.F. designation also belongs to Barling tradition: found on historic pipes, it was temporarily discontinued during the early-1960s reorganization of production before subsequently returning. The four-digit 5295 number, meanwhile, relates to the numbering system introduced by Barling in 1962 as part of a major revision of its nomenclature.

These details make this pre-owned Barling EXEL 5295 T.V.F. especially appealing to enthusiasts interested not only in vintage English pipes but also in the history and evolution of Barling markings. We would nevertheless avoid assigning an exact production year without further reliable dating evidence. The photographs show the actual condition of this specific pipe and form an integral part of its description.
