Sauro - n. 13
Elegant in its simplicity, this Sauro Sandblasted Dublin Long Shank offers a refined interpretation of a classic pipe shape, combining elongated proportions with distinctive Italian craftsmanship. The tall, gently flared bowl flows into an exceptionally long and slender shank, creating a clean, harmonious silhouette. A short mouthpiece completes the design without disturbing its balance, giving the pipe a sophisticated and instantly recognizable appearance.
Crafted from first-grade Romeo briar, selected for its attractive flame grain, this Dublin features a carefully executed sandblasted finish that reveals the natural structure of the wood. Dense ridges and striking ring-grain patterns emerge across the bowl, while the long shank displays a finer, more delicate texture. The warm honey and copper-brown colouring enhances the relief of the sandblasting, emphasizing the organic beauty of the briar.
The elongated shank is finished with an elegant boxwood ring, whose pale golden tone provides a refined contrast with the textured briar. The pipe is completed by a NYH mouthpiece in red-and-black Cumberland, featuring subtle, rich colour variations. The combination of sandblasted briar, natural boxwood and two-tone Cumberland demonstrates a careful approach to material selection and visual harmony.
This distinctive handcrafted Italian pipe is the work of Gioacchino Sauro, a Palermo-based pipemaker who further developed his craftsmanship under the guidance of Mimmo Romeo. His work reflects a strong appreciation for quality briar and a thoughtful interpretation of traditional pipe shapes. With its expressive sandblasting, extended shank and carefully chosen accents, this Sauro Dublin Long Shank is an appealing example of contemporary Italian artisan pipe making.
