Sauro - n. 11
A sculptural shape, exceptional briar and carefully selected details distinguish this Sauro Smooth Volcano, a handcrafted Italian pipe weighing just 42 grams. The bowl features a striking, asymmetrical profile, with flowing curves and a dramatic silhouette that gives this Volcano its unmistakable personality. The smooth finish enhances the natural beauty of the wood, highlighting the craftsmanship behind this distinctive creation.
The pipe is crafted from flawless Romeo Extra briar, carefully selected for its quality and attractive grain. Its warm honey-brown finish reveals fine, closely spaced grain patterns flowing naturally across the bowl. One of its most remarkable features is the original natural briar plateau preserved on the base, creating a fascinating contrast between the textured, untouched surface and the beautifully polished wood. This detail gives the pipe an unmistakably organic and individual character.
The shank features an elegant boxwood accent, whose warm, pale colour provides a refined contrast with the briar and darker details. The pipe is completed by an exceptional asymmetrical saddle mouthpiece made from SEM black-and-sand ebonite. Its flowing, marbled pattern beautifully complements the natural tones of the wood, while its graceful curvature follows the dynamic lines of the Volcano shape.
Behind this creation is Gioacchino Sauro, a talented Italian artisan based in Palermo who refined his pipe-making skills under the guidance of renowned briar expert and pipemaker Mimmo Romeo. Sauro's work combines carefully selected materials, technical precision and a distinctive artistic vision, resulting in pipes with a strong individual identity. This handcrafted Sauro Volcano in Romeo Extra briar, with its natural plateau base, boxwood accent and two-tone ebonite mouthpiece, perfectly expresses his creative approach to traditional Italian pipe making.
