This Jacono Freeform deliberately moves away from traditional pipe geometries, turning the briar into an almost sculptural composition. The tall, slightly inclined bowl retains broad smooth surfaces that clearly display the grain, while the shank develops into an irregular, pointed form that gives the pipe an immediately recognizable silhouette.
The smooth finish, in warm reddish-brown tones, highlights long flame-like grain rising along the sides of the bowl. Its most unusual feature, however, is found around the top: a portion of the natural briar surface has been preserved around the chamber opening, with knots, small protrusions and irregularities forming an organic, intentionally rugged frame.
The same natural treatment appears again at the end of the shank, where a broad irregular surface surrounds the stem mortise. The photograph of the pipe disassembled shows this feature particularly well: both areas appear almost like exposed natural sections of the original briar block, creating a striking contrast with the carefully polished surfaces surrounding them.
A curved, tapered glossy black stem fits into the center of this irregular shank end, introducing a cleaner and more graphic element to the composition. This is a distinctly unconventional Jacono, where the Freeform concept becomes a way of preserving and emphasizing some of the briar's most natural and unpredictable characteristics.
