Volkan - n. 176
More dynamic and colourful than a strictly traditional interpretation of the shape, this Volkan Bottega Rhodesian plays on the contrast between warm natural briar and a particularly striking mouthpiece. The bowl retains the full, rounded proportions associated with the Rhodesian shape, while its tapered upper section creates a compact, elegant and immediately recognizable silhouette.
The smooth briar features a warm honey and reddish-brown finish that allows the natural variations and grain of the wood to remain visible. Two fine parallel circular grooves run around the upper section of the bowl, emphasizing its geometry and creating a clear visual transition between the rounded lower body and the tapered area towards the rim. The chamber has a 19 mm internal diameter, while the bowl measures 43 mm externally.
The broad, low shank continues towards the mouthpiece with a predominantly horizontal profile. The most eye-catching detail is undoubtedly the translucent amber mouthpiece, enriched by irregular brown and black mottling that gives it a lively, distinctive appearance. Its subtly flowing profile and gentle curve towards the bit add movement without disturbing the overall balance of the pipe.
A distinctive handcrafted Italian Volkan Bottega pipe that demonstrates how a traditional shape can acquire a more individual personality through carefully chosen colour contrasts. Classic Rhodesian geometry, warm smooth briar and the unusual amber mouthpiece combine to create a recognizable pipe that retains the elegance of its traditional inspiration.
