What materials are pipes made from?
People have tried to make pipes from every conceivable type of material. Even from human bone. But the most popular and the best material used nowadays is briar. This wood is easy to work with, and is very heat-resistant and porous. It‘s also lightweight. Meerschaum, a mineral mainly found in Turkey, is another very popular material because it is extremely porous and lightweight. The downside of meerschaum is that it is fragile.
