Club Area
The Capital Area Pipe Smokers club has become a dynamic group of individuals all sharing their interest and enjoyment in pipe smoking, pipe collecting, and pipe making. CAPS meets every other month for dinner and highlights guest speakers, smoking contests, pipe-carving contests, and raffles at every meeting.
CAPS members receive a significant discount at all our sponsor’s stores, and participate in all CAPS sponsored activities. Members are required to pay annual dues of only $20.00 per year and present their CAPS card at our sponsor’s stores at checkout (to receive the discount).
Since 1997, CAPS has commissioned an annual club Pipe of the Year beginning with a Nording in ’97, then Ashton (’98), Radice (’99), Il Ceppo (’00), Sumerler (’01), Peterson (’02), Castello (’03), and a Sam Learned (’04).
CAPS meetings are casual dinners with guest speakers, smoking contests, raffles, tobacco samplings, pipe swaps, and the natural camaraderie shared by pipesmokers. CAPS has been pleased to host many guest speakers in the last few years, including Ben Rapaport, Mark & Mary Ann Tinsky, Bill Taylor, Erik Nording, and representatives from Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Bacardi, and many more. All meetings are held at 7 PM on the third Friday of every month at the home of our President, Phillip McKee unless otherwise noted. Some meetings have been moved to alternate Fridays to avoid National Holidays.
