The Smokers Forums really started life around 1986/1987 with first, a simple message board and then an interactive mailing list called the Pipe and Pouch Cooperative.
As time and technology moved on so did Pipe and Pouch and eventually the first "real forum" was developed around 1999/2000 which went by the name of Pipe and Pouch Forums. It soon became clear that the forums were becoming quite popular. A new domain was registered and the first "real" Smokers Forums appeared in 2001. Over this period of time they have used different technologies and software for the Smokers Forums. The final solution that you see before you today is developed using the reliable combination of Red Hat Enterprise Server and Apache‘s httpd web server on load balanced servers so the site runs across multiple servers for maximum reliability, performance and availability. The software they use is VBulletin from Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. that they lease on a yearly basis.
